It is my pleasure to nominate Paul Smith for the Regional Member Recognition Award for the Atlantic Region. Paul has been a member in good standing of CACEE for 6 years (10 years as recognized by CACEE) and has been Atlantic Regional Chair for the past two. During these past two years we have had two very successful Regional Events, one in St. John's, NL, the other in Moncton, NB. The leadership, guidance and encouragement he provided to the individuals organizing the events was appreciated and the end result was demonstrated by the high number of attendees.
Paul was also a member of the organizing committee for the National Conference hosted in St. John's in 2001. He was chair of the sponsorship committee and was instrumental in the success of this committee and the conference overall. While this was Paul's first time on a National Conference organizing committee he has attended every National conference since over the past 5 years including Thunder Bay, ON, Victoria, BC, St. John's, NL, Alliston, ON and Sherbrooke, QB.
Over the past year in particular CACEE has gone through a number of changes. Paul has always kept the regional committee and members in the Atlantic region up to date on these issues and has been very open in answering questions and addressing concerns. This open line of communication is one of Paul's strengths. He has ensured conference calls occur regularly, provided the regional committee with a clear mandate and a sense that this is a great organization meeting the needs of employers and career educators in Canada.
It is for these many reasons that I nominate Paul Smith for the Regional Member Recognition Award. His commitment to CACEE both regionally and nationally, his enthusiasm and belief in the organization should be acknowledged. I encourage you to seriously consider Paul for this honour.

Carol Ann Olheiser is an Employment Co-ordinator with Co-operative Education & Career Services at the University of Waterloo. She has been with the university for 25 years in the field of career development.
Carol Ann has been an absolute model of volunteerism during her years as a CACEE member. Carol Ann attended her first National Conference 15 years ago, and has been an active volunteer and member in the Association ever since!
Carol Ann has sat on numerous boards and committees throughout the years. She has achieved her 15 year Certificate of Volunteer Recognition and this year she will be receiving her 20 year Certificate! Carol Ann has a strong desire to offer CACEE members the highest level of resources and professional development. Her commitment in this area led to her extensive involvement to help coordinate the speakers and workshops for the annual National Conference. Carol Ann made it her goal to take the Programming of the National Conferences to new heights. She was part of the National Conference Programming Committee in 1998 and succeeded so well in her first year in this role that she continued on this Programming Committee for 7 years (and some of these National Conferences weren't even in Carol Ann's region!!). Aside from her continuous role on the committee itself, she was Chair of the Program Committee and part of the National Conference Steering Committee in 2002. Carol Ann has been one of the first to lend a hand and offer help at the Regional level, but her overall contribution has certainly affected CACEE at a National level since her early years of volunteering.
Carol Ann has sat on the National Board and Executive Committee for many years. Her opinion around the boardroom table became quickly respected and she was one of the first to take on important tasks around the table. Carol Ann stepped up to the Chair positions that everyone else would shy away from because of the amount of stress and work involved in these positions.
She dedicated so much of her personal time to CACEE - personal time that she was more than willing to give up. And yet despite all of her efforts in CACEE, she still made time for her role at the University of Waterloo, and her role at home as a wonderful wife and mother to two sons.
Aside from Carol Ann's extensive contributions to the Association, her personality has made her a legend within CACEE. Carol Ann is not one of those "jump out of your seat" enthusiastic-type of personalities, but her quiet willingness to give, share, and appreciate have made her one of the most "loved" CACEE members around! Carol Ann is one of the troopers that has been from year to year with CACEE - she's seen it all! And not only has she seen it all, but she's been an active part of the decision making that has brought CACEE to the "New Beginnings" that we are currently proud to be experiencing! In between spending time with other long-standing CACEE colleagues that she has grown strong relationships with, Carol Ann is the first to step up to new members and give them a warm welcome into the Association. Carol Ann's sincere love and dedication for her family, her employer, her colleagues, and especially for CACEE truly makes her a role model for any aspiring volunteer to look up to.

Memorial has had a membership presence in CACEE for the last number of years. The current members are very active in the organization in a number of ways. Presenting at conferences, actively participating in the National and Regional Boards, volunteer committees and assisting with both the 2003 and 2004 national conferences. Memorial has regularly paid its membership fees and supported all Regional and National Conferences.
- Has the institution contributed toward CACEE in another form (ie. Facilitators at CACEE events and conferences, has the institution provided a venue for a PD event or hosted a conference? Etc.)
Memorial has given a great deal to the CACEE organization in the form of support for Regional and National conferences. Some of these contributions are as follows:
- In 2001 Memorial University hosted the National Conference "A Tradition of Innovation". Over 300 delegates visited The Rock and the organizing committee, including the two co-chairs, Robert Shea and Christine Webb, were all CACEE members affiliated with Memorial University.
- In January 2003 Memorial also hosted the CACEE Regional one day conference on campus. This event brought a number of employers and career educators together exploring the topic Hiring for Success in the Newfoundland and Labrador Economy. Once again the CACEE membership at Memorial and the institution were integral in the success of the event.
- Memorial staff have had a strong presence in the Conference Programs or the past number of years. Over the past three years Memorial Staff have presented or co-presented at least 4 presentations at each National Conference. Sharing expertise, best practices and collaborating with other Educational Institutions to bring current trends, research, and relevant subject matter to the CACEE Membership.
